The exciting future of Framework
I am from India, so I am yet to have my Framework laptop with me. Maybe I will get a Lenovo or Asus laptop as I am in need of a laptop. So I will buy one maybe in next two years so(I really hope the company survive for more than 3 years).
I am one of those guys still get this prompt “ We haven’t opened ordering in your region yet, but we’re looking forward to getting there! We can notify you when ordering opens: “ when trying to order one. I don’t have a hands on experience. The only way I can get information about the framework is only through videos and articles.
What’s the reason I am attracted to framework?
As an electronics engineer, this is like a treasure trove of things. The main attraction for me is not the easily interchange IO. But the motherboard and screen. Just image when you are ordering the framework DIY edition just order three component..
- The framework chassis with keyboard and mouse pad
- The battery
- Mother board
The rest I could be sourced from local shop(provided I can use any laptop screen too). coming without laptop screen gives me more ideas.. Maybe use a local variant, or use the HDMI etc. I can source the rest of the component like SSD’s, RAM sticks, WIFI card etc. from the local shops which can be cheaper for me.
Maybe I can buy just the motherboard and screen. The housing can be made from wood or other materials or better make a old commodore type PC motherboard inside keyboard. Just like I saw in a YouTube channel “Elevated Systems”.. Loved his videos though. Please do watch them.

The interchange motherboard can make a huge wave. Imagine they could bring out a board with ARM processors, RISC-V processors, or better yet a adapter board where we can plug-in existing raspberry pi board so that I don’t have to buy an extra RAM’s. Just buy this board and I can keep upgrading the motherboards because there will be a new raspberry pi and till will only cost me only 32$ each time I want to upgrade. How cool would be that.
If I can get my hands on one I have couple of ideas I want to try out and write some articles about it. For now I am just patiently waiting for the laptop to be available in my region.
Well hoping Framework is here to stay and maybe collaborate on the raspberry pi or any other brands to make even the CPU and GPU upgrade easier in the coming days.
P.S saw about Framework in LTT. maybe he did influenced my favorability about Framework a little bit.
